Homework 9/25

2.1) If I was applying for a summer job while in college but the job I was applying for was a “continuing, full-time position” it would be unethical for me to withhold the fact that I would only be working in the summer before returning to college. An ethical way of applying at this job would to leave a few sentences on your application explaining the situation I am in and if there is anyway to get a part time summer job. Not letting the employer know about my schooling would be bad candor meaning truthfulness.
2.2) With six departments condemning the sale of Simple Study Guides, I think it would be a good idea to listen to the departments. If six departments do not want the book to be sold, then these departments will not advise purchasing this book causing the books sales to be much lower then what the bookstore head has seen in other stores.
3.1) Outline work.
3.2) I choose the template for a business letter. The template is very simple and has all the need information laid out for you to fill in. It is lacking some extra information that someone might want to put in the letter but it can easily be added. There is a small design on the top and bottom that can have the colors changed to match the businesses or of the like. Overall this template is very simple yet effective for business letters.
4 - Document Analysis
1.     The tone of the comments made on this document are very condescending and do not do much to help the writer. These comments should have tips and helpful ideas in them.
2.     The collaborator does not do a good job at addressing the larger issues. They should be more concerned with if a reader will know what the piece is about, and if the reader can make sense of the piece. There is a bunch of random information throw together without much thought.
3.     The collaborator does address the writing more then he addresses the writer. There are questions about what certain things mean and how they could be explained better.
4.     The collaborators comments do an awful job on focusing on the goal of the document. Instead there are comments that are short and worthless considering what else needs to be worked on in this document. This document needs to better explain the situation and what is being done.

Chasing Coral Reflection

Chasing Coral Reflection
This film was one of the most interesting films I have ever watched. It begins with showing all different types of amazing coral and the ecosystem that revolves around it. Then slowly the film introduces the problem, being the coral is dying from the oceans warming. The film really doesn’t point fingers as to what is causing the warming, but it is getting warmer. A man named Richard Verves decides to quit his marketing job and markets the dying coral for the world to see. He creates a team and begins to capture the harsh reality we live in; our coral is dying at an extraordinary rate.  The Great Barrier Reef is their main subject to analyze. In 2016 it lost nearly one third of its coral, so there was plenty of evidence to film. The team would go out and film the reef each day in the same spot in order to make a time-lapse. The finished product is devastating. The coral over just a few months goes from an amazing color to a bleached white. Then as it continues to die, algae begins to grow on it and the coral disappears. The entire process is awful to watch and really makes a point that this needs to be stopped.

Homework 1

Homework 1
NIU has a very simple yet effective home page that looks professional and provides all needed information. Niu’s homepage is accessible from any computer at any time. The home page has a task bar that has most things students and staff would need like the calendar and directory. There is a slide show of students and past events that where at NIU. The slide show takes up majority of the screen when you go to the home page. I don’t think the slide show needs to be that large and take up space that could have other important links. NIU’s homepage is very professional. There are the main links on the task bar up top for quick access. If you keep scrolling there is information about NIU that acts as an advertisement so students go here. It lists how many different degrees are offered along with social media account associated with NIU. Overall our homepage is very clear, accessible and professional.

Reflection on Scardeycat

Reflection

After watching Scardeycat again, I came across some emotions I did not experience in class. When Andy was talking to his attacker, Andy asks him if he had any violence in his past. The attacker says he only had an occasional fist fight with his step father and that it wasn’t that violent. Andy seems so surprised that the attacker does not think of that as violence. I also would consider that to be quite violent, but it really depends where and how you grow up. That scene really hit home on showing that some people think of a fist fight just as a quick rumble. While there are people like Andy and I who would consider a fist fight very violent.
